When it comes to having Lap-Band surgery, many things need to happen before you can say, “I did it!” While the surgery is elective, a good surgeon’s team will have you jump through a number of hoops to see that you qualify for the surgery, and that you know exactly what you are entering into with this weight loss procedure.

A friend of mine is scheduled for surgery this week. She has undergone a number of different medical tests. They also wanted her to go through a three week preparation process but she refused. She told them she was ready for it. She already made up her mind that she wanted to have the surgery. She just wanted to get it done.

Over a lunch discussion this weekend, she began to elaborate on all of the different changes that take place as a result of undergoing Lap-Band surgery.  For example, she said she will not be able to drink while eating a meal. Eating and drinking must be done separately. No fast food. Gone will be some of her favorite foods. No Rib-Eye steaks because of the grease. Breads and cheeses will also be removed from her menu of choice.

This process is not something that would work for me. For now the fat man in me will be unleashed through an improved diet and exercise. The bottom line is I have my doubts if I could give up breads completely! But I sure do see the positive results of Lap-Band surgery.
