Genetics is amazing. That is a comment I make often whether it’s about weight loss or life in general. Like other parents, I can only laugh at how I see so much of myself through my little boy. I’m not talking about weight loss pictures, but everyday pictures in life. Good, bad, or indifferent, genetics always puts on quite a show. Wait until you see what genetics can do for your weight loss photos.

Last night I was having dinner after a long work day with friends and co-workers in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. Someone brought up the topic of genetics.

Then later I see that Interleukin Genetics, a health company that develops genetic tests for sale has developed a new and interesting one in collaboration with Stanford University. They presented findings from their clinical study on weight management to the American Heart Association. It brought some interesting weight loss photos to life.

“Genotype Patterns Predict Weight Loss Success: The Right Diet Does Matter,” set out to determine whether people who were assigned diets matched for their genotype could lose more weight than those who followed a diet inappropriate for their genotype. The findings showed statistically significant greater weight loss (5.3%), metabolic benefit and other improvements when compared to individuals on diets not matched to their genotype (2.3%) The differences in weight loss were even greater for the people who were trying to follow the lowest carbohydrate (Atkins) and the lowest fat (Ornish) diets. Here it was 6.8% weight loss for those whose genotype matched the diet they were following vs. 1.4% for those not matched.

Customizing a weight loss diet program to meet your specific genetic makeup could help significantly in creating the weight loss photos that are at the heart of your goal.
