If you haven’t, then read on because here is some news for you to consider with regards to your own personal weight loss images.
There is new research from a prestigious Boston hospital which shows that women who drank one to two alcoholic drinks a day were 30 percent less likely to gain weight than those who did not.
Dr Lu Wang is an epidemiologist at Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston, Massachusetts. In conducting this research, Dr. Wang studied nearly 20,000 women in the U.S. who were aged 39 or more, and who had normal body weight. For the study, the women were required to list their drinking habits and their weight gain for an average of 13 years.
The findings were that on average, all of the women studied tended to gain weight over the 13 years. However, the women who gained the most weight were the ones who abstained from drinking alcohol. The results of the study also showed that the more alcohol women drank, the less weight they gained.
Dr. Wang commented on the findings of the study in the new issue of the Archives of Internal Medicine saying, “There could be any number of reasons for the findings, including different ways women metabolize alcohol. Those who regularly consume light-to-moderate alcohol usually have a lower energy intake from non-alcohol sources, particularly carbohydrates. On the other hand, alcohol intake tends to induce increased energy expenditure beyond energy contents of the consumed alcohol in women. Taken together, regular alcohol consumption in a light-to-moderate amount may lead to a net energy loss.”
This study on the effects of alcohol and weight loss for women is the latest piece of evidence to stir the debate among healthcare practitioners and researchers. Previous studies have indicated that women who consume alcohol in moderation are at a lower risk for heart disease. But other research has shown that moderate drinking of alcohol in women may actually increase the risk for breast, liver and other cancers.
No one is recommending you make alcohol a cornerstone of your daily routine. Nutrition not cocktails is still the best road to the weight loss pictures of your dreams.
